Secure remote access to Linux servers.
For Linux administration, decide whether you need a terminal provided by a compatible agent or a connection to an SSH server. A private connection does not replace SSH authentication or host identity checks.
Choose an agent terminal or private SSH.
For a headless server, a graphical desktop is unnecessary for a terminal task. Keep an appropriate recovery route before changing authentication or network settings that could remove your own access.
Prepare and verify the connection.
- Match the Linux build. Use the build for your architecture and environment. Headless musl builds are designed for broad Linux compatibility; GNU builds require compatible libraries. Installation steps are supplied in Central.
- Prepare the access method. For an agent terminal, check the tool available on the device. For native SSH, verify the SSH server, authorised account and approved local service path. Elevate privileges only when the task requires it.
- Confirm and close. Check the hostname in a read-only session before acting. For SSH, retain host-key verification. End the session and confirm it has disconnected when the work is complete.
